I was flicking through my diary, looking for future runs I can book myself onto and I saw a date in my diary that I’d forgotten about. Not totally forgotten, but it’s June so it’s ages away. The date is June 24th and the event? The Northern Grid Conference. In Newcastle. Why do I care about a conference in Newcastle? After all, I am miiiiiiles away from there. It’s because I have been asked to attend.
I was hugely flattered to be invited to run a workshop when originally asked, like I said it’s not a local event and the guy inviting me is none other than Simon Finch (@simfin) and I value his ideas greatly. Then I saw the list of other presenters and I was blown away. It’s a crazy list, I’m not sure if I deserve my place on there but boy it’ll be fun. So who’s going to be there?
In no particular order there’s people I’ve seen present, people I love connecting with and people I’ve heard of but have never spoken to. I can’t wait to see people like Lisa Stevens (will she bring cupcakes), David Rogers (will he make me climb a tree?) Jan Webb (No, wait…she made me climb a tree…), Bev Evans (what colour will her hair be?), ipod touch Mary Farmer and the slimmer-every-time-you-see-him Bill Lord. It will also be fun to connect with people I have met very briefly including Doug Belshaw, Russell Prue and Dan (the chicken man) Roberts.
So what am I doing there? I’m involved in Primary ICT along with Martin Waller and that’s all I know. Whatever the plan, it’ll be a great laugh and lots of learning will take place. I’d love to see you there, so please do say hello, I’ll be the southerner moaning about the weather.
